This is perhaps one of the most versatile, attractive and carefree of the ornamental grasses. As a cool season grower, its deep-green, lustrous foliage becomes effective by early spring and lasts all the way until winter.

Stands out among others for its iridescent, silvery mauve color that appears in midsummer. These beautiful pastel tones intensify in fall when bright purple highlights appear. About half as wide as it is tall, has a full, upright columnar shape.

Study, upright stems are a smoky blue-green, but the end of summer, they’ll start to aquire some crimson tones. Throughout the fall, they’ll deepen to reddish-purple, and minicule tan seed heads will sprout on the top of each stem. Drought and clay soil tolerant.

Shorter than the species, but still maintains many of the characteristics that made this type of grass popular. Its short green foliage is topped by wispy, airy and aromatic tan flower panicles. Foliage takes on red overtones in late fall.

Shorter and more upright than the species; the fine-textured, vase-shaped foliage turns a gorgeous toasty orange red in autumn.
